How to Straighten Wavy Hair

How to Straighten Wavy Hair

Naturally wavy hair is gorgeous, though some days you might want a change of pace and decide you want to wear it straight. Especially if you have hair that is susceptible to frizz, you may have envied the sleek, elegant locks you've seen on others. To achieve that sleek, smooth look, all you'll need is a flat iron, some product to help protect and style your hair, and a little bit of patience.

Part one
Cleaning and Protecting Your Hair for Straightening

1.Gather your hair straightening products. To straighten your hair, you'll be using a flat iron to apply heat to take out the waves in your hair. You should consider using a ceramic iron, as non-ceramic ones can damage your hair more easily or cause it to revert back to normal.[1] Including your flat iron, you'll also need:
Flat iron
Hair clips or ties
Hair spray (optional)
Hair straightening product (cream, mousse, etc.)
Heat protectant
Volumizer (optional)

2
Choose the right flat iron for your hair. Flat irons come in many varieties and price ranges. You might have a simple flat iron with only high and low settings, or a space-age iron with a digital display for temperature. Temperature variable flat irons, where you can more precisely adjust the temperature, are an investment you will not regret, as these allow you to apply the right heat setting to your hair with greater accuracy, yielding better results.
Flat irons come in different sizes for different purposes:
½" Flat Iron: pixie cuts and bangs
1" Flat Iron: short and fine hair
1¼ Flat Iron: shoulder length and/or medium thick hair
1½" Flat Iron: thick, coarse, curly hair shoulder length or longer
2" Flat Iron: very long, very thick
hair.

3
Wash your hair, if necessary. Your hair should be clean before straightening to prevent oil and dirt from interfering with the process. Use a gentle shampoo while bathing to clean your hair, and consider using a conditioner intended for smoothing and detangling to make your hair more manageable.[4]
Use a towel to remove as much excess moisture from your hair as possible to speed the drying process.

4
Apply your straightener and heat protectant. You should follow the directions on these to ensure the best results. Generally, you should apply your straightener and heat protectant before you use any heat tools on your hair, but after it has been towel dried damp.Be sure you get all parts of your hair, including the roots, by massaging your product into your scalp. For most straightening products, a dime-sized amount should be sufficient for your hair.

5
Dry your hair completely. Avoid using a flat iron on damp hair as this can cause water locked inside to boil, leading to hair damage. To prevent your hair from harm, you should blow dry or air dry your hair until it is completely dry.
Use the cool setting of your blow dryer intermittently to prevent overheating your hair and damaging it while drying.
Keep your blow dryer angled downwards while drying your hair to limit frizzing.
6
Brush your hair so that it is ready for styling. Tangles can make it difficult to separate your hair for straightening. Tangles can also make it difficult to keep straightened hair separate from the hair you've already straightened, which is important as straightening your hair too much can lead to damage.

Part Two
Straightening Your Hair
1
Heat up your flat iron. Always exercise caution while using your flat iron. Make sure not to leave it in a place where it can burn anything, including yourself. You should aim for a straightening temperature of 365°F (185°C) to gain the most styling benefits while minimizing potential heat damage.[8]
As long as your hair is of average thickness, even simple "high-low" model flat irons should work for your hair. Set the iron to "high" and work quickly to prevent fry.

2
Separate your hair into sections. Section your hair so that you can easily keep hair you've straightened apart from the rest. Your goal should be regular sections that are easy to work with. For most people, three sections should be enough, but if you have thicker hair, you will likely need more sections.[10]
Divide your hair horizontally along the back of your head from ear to ear.
Further separate your hair by parting your hair vertically at the middle of your horizontal part.
Gather all hair above the horizontal line out of the way and to the top of your head.
Sub-divide sections for especially thick hair.

3
Iron your hair. Divide a two inch (5 cm) segment of your hair from the section you are currently straightening. Then take your flat iron and clamp it close to the roots of the segment, being careful not to burn your scalp in the process. Steadily slide the iron along the entire length of the segment until you reach the ends.[12]
If after the first pass, your hair doesn't look straight enough, you should repeat the process.
Be careful not to apply your iron too many times; this could lead to heat damage.

4
Continue to straighten your sections in segments. Once your segment is sufficiently straightened, you should release it and allow it to hang out of the way. Then divide another two inch (5 cm) segment from your section until that section is done.

Repeat this process with the each section of your hair, until all parts of your hair are straight.
Use a mirror when you believe you are finished to check that your hair has been completely straightened.

5
Apply product when finished, if desired. A volumizing mousse or spray will help your straightened hair look fuller and give it more body. You might also want to spritz your hair with hairspray. This will hold it in place and prevent it from getting wavy again.

Why do so many African-American women wear weaves, wigs, perms, or dyed hair?

You could ask 20 black women why they wear their hair the way they do and receive 20 different responses. Oh, AND you could ask 20 non-black women the same question, and receive 20 different responses. As a matter of fact, I'd bet money that at least half of the responses would probably change based on the day and style.
Personally, I have healthy, natural hair that is past my shoulders. I wear it curly and straight. It grows quickly, there is a lot of it per square inch, and the texture is fine. Sometimes I wear braids, twists, clip-in extensions, sew-in's, wigs, and quick weave. In the past I've relaxed it, colored it black, blonde, caramel and red. I used to be obsessed with cutting it in the trendiest styles.

The moral of the story...I love changing it up because I can...and because I feel that I can pull off most looks...and because it is fun...and because...

Sometimes I want to look like Beyonce, and flip my waist length layers around, and
Sometimes I want to look like Rihanna, and serve all of the fierceness with an edgy cut and color, and
Sometimes I want to look like the stylish cashier with the fresh Havana twists, especially when I am vacation bound, and
Sometimes I want to look like Halle Berry, and finger style my hair and let the wind kiss my scalp, and
Sometimes I want to look like the fly natural hair blogger and allow my twist-out to kill the game.
And then again, sometimes I'm tired, or I'm going to work, or I'm rushed, or I'm going out to a gala, or I'm just trying something new that I made up.
I am a creative. Hair is just one of the many ways I express myself.

In conclusion:
The most important thing to me is maintaining a healthy head of hair and scalp. As long as that primary goal is being accomplished, I will keep changing my hair up to match my mood/outfit/look, and continue to complement other people's hair choices that I find beautiful.

"You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have."

How do you color human hair extensions?

How do you color human hair extensions?

Coloring human hair extensions is a process that takes a varying amount of time depending on the amount of hair being colored. When coloring human hair extensions, choose a low volume developer, such as a 10 or 20 volume, to avoid damage. Other supplies you need are a bowl, a brush, gloves, tin foil, plastic wrap, shampoo, water, a comb, a towel, leave-in conditioner and hair color.

Prepare your work area and hair color

Lay down sheets of aluminum on your table or counter top. Put the hair extensions on top of the sheets to keep dye from damaging surfaces. Mix the hair color and the developer in a bowl following the manufacturer's directions.

Apply the hair color

Put on the gloves and use the brush to begin applying hair color to the human hair extensions. Make sure the hair extensions are not wet or even damp before starting this process. With the brush, coat both sides of the extensions thoroughly. Start at the top of each clump of hair and work down, making sure there is enough color spread to saturate the hair.

Allow the color to set

Use the plastic wrap to loosely cover all of the wet hair extensions. The wrap should not be too tight on the hair. It only needs to be tight enough to prevent the color from drying out. Let the plastic wrap sit for 20 to 40 minutes before continuing.

Rinse and let dry

With cool water, thoroughly rinse the colored hair one section at a time. Make sure all the dye is removed. Use a color-safe shampoo on the hair extensions. Once the extensions have been rinsed, apply a leave-in conditioner. Comb the hair extensions, and lay them out on the towel to dry.

How to care braid hair?

How to care braid hair?

Do you like braid hair? When will you usually need to braid hair? I think braids are our official summer, maternity leave and bad hair day hairstyle all rolled into one.

Aside from being very stylish, braids are a convenient, no hassle hairstyle that's pretty economical at the same time.

Let's discuss what you should know about creating and caring for braids and tips for the different techniques. Whether you use human or synthetic hair, your braids will always look good if they're done right.

How to care for braids? Use these tips to keep your hairstyle looking great and your hair healthier than ever.
1. Everyday Braid Maintenance :
Condition your scalp with a light all natural oil 2-3 times a week.
Use conditioning braid spray with anti-itch formulation on your braids daily to keep your   scalp happy and the hair underneath the braids healthy.
If you sweat a lot in your scalp, take a cotton swab and some Sea Breeze astringent and   run it along your scalp to keep itch causing residue away.
Use a light oil sheen spray on your braids to refresh them and add a healthy glow.

2. Night Time Braid Maintenance
The way you take care of your braids before you go to bed makes the difference between them looking perfect and being a fuzzy mess.
Wear a silk or satin scarf every night to keep your braids frizz free and smooth.
Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase in case the scarf falls off.

3. General Braid Care Tips
Make sure your braider doesn't put your braids in tightly. It doesn't make them last any longer and it pulls your hair out.
Don't ever leave your braids in for more than 12 weeks. Every 6-8 weeks is the best time to take them out and have them re-done.

Wash your braids once every 1-2 weeks with diluted shampoo. Focus on your scalp, letting the suds travel down to the ends of the braids.

Don't use creamy conditioners with braids. They cause build up in the hair that makes knots form at the base of the braids.

After you shampoo and apply leave-in conditioner, make sure your braids dry completely. This prevents damage to your hair from mildew.

If the braids around your edges get loose, take them out and re-do them. Loose braids weaken your hairline and cause it to fade.

Always deep condition your hair between braiding. If you don't the end results will be damage, breakage and thinning.

Trim the ends of your hair a little bit after you take your braids out, before the next set goes in.

Braids are beautiful and easy to handle.Use these tips to keep your hairstyle looking great and your hair healthier than ever.

How can we promote hair growth?

How can we promote hair growth?

To make hair grow faster, a simple hair care routine that includes regular brushing, shampooing, and conditioning is essential.

However, you also need to watch your diet and lifestyle. If you pay attention to all these factors, not only will your hair grow faster but the quality of hair will also improve. Here are a few pointers that show you how to promote hair growth:

A.Get enough vitamin C. Vitamin C deficiencies can cause hair that is weak, lusterless, and prone to breakage.
Watch your diet and ensure that it includes a wide variety of natural hair growth nutrients and vitamins. Dark, green, leafy vegetables such as spinach and collard must be included in the diet because they are armed with hair growth vitamins (vitamin C and vitamin E) as well as                                                               minerals such as iron and calcium.

B.Eat the right kinds of fat. Certain fats are essential to both a healthy

lifestyle and healthy hair production.

Fats in moderation help maintain healthy hair and skin production. Some proteins to consider incorporating into your diets: lean meats such as chicken and turkey, fish, eggs, soy products, beans, and nuts. These foods will help promote healthy keratin production, which are the building blocks of hair. Eat the right kinds of fats. Saturated fats, trans fatty acids, and hydrogenated fats are examples of fats that you should avoid.

C.Make sure you're getting enough iron and zinc. Iron and zinc, along with other vitamins, are essential in creating great, healthy hair

Iron is responsible for delivering oxygen to your cells, from the blood in your toes all the way up to your hair follicles. Lean animal meats are great ways to get iron, but if you're vegetarian, consider eating beans, lentils, and soy products such as tofu.
Zinc is also a very import element. Get your zinc by eating oysters, low-fat roast beef, toasted wheat germ, roasted pumpkin and squash seeds, dark chocolate, and cocoa powder.

D.
And meanwhile, drink lots of fluids to keep your body hydrated, sleep well, and exercise regular to improve the blood flow to the scalp and ensure better utilization of nutrients.
